Josef Herowitsch is the catholic priest of the small village Lockenhaus where the festival takes place. In 1981, he founded the Chamber Music Festival Lockenhaus together with his friend Gidon Kremer. Since then he organizes the festival togehter with members of his rectorate, who are mostly working as volunteers.
