The promotion of young musicians and composers is a tradition in Burgenland. Joseph Haydn himself found the necessary environment for his artistic development with the Esterházy family and should be quoted as an example in this place on the occasion of his commemorative year in 2009.

With the Lockenhaus International Academy for Chamber Music a centre for elite promotion was created on the border of the former iron curtain which was understood as being a contact point for outstanding personalities from the sectors of music and musicology and today’s new generation which promises so much.

The Lockenhaus Academy takes place every two years.
